Sustainable Development, Land and Energy: at Loison, facts speak for themselves

Download att.

Loison has always been interested in the Green movement and has worked for many years to prove its awareness with actual facts: from the sewage treatment plant in 2007, to the photovoltaic plant in 2011, and soon the energy-saving LED lighting system.

The third edition of the annual Green Week, which included events that took place across the north-east of Italy, has recently come to a close. The theme of the events always revolves around the future of urban development. This year's theme “From Smart Cities to Smart Land” was in line with a project that focuses on the territory, where smart cities are a part of the wider metropolitan area.

Sustainable Development, Land and Energy are all issues that have always been of great interest to Loison, a company that has been working for many years to prove its attention to such issues with actual facts.

In fact, ever since 2007, all of Loison’s wastewater has ended up in the company’s sewage treatment plant where, through a number of oxygenation and sedimentation tanks, it undergoes a microbiological process during which bacteria separate sediment from water. Through this process, the clean water is returned back into the environment, whereas the organic material is used as a fertilizer in agricultural lands, after it has gone through a drying process.

In 2011 it was time for an energy upgrade, with the construction of a 99.36 kWp photovoltaic plant. In 2013, this plant produced 109,760 kWhs of which almost 75% was consumed internally and 25% was sold to Enel, Italy’s largest power company. In addition, 25% of the total consumption of electricity at Loison is absorbed by the production departments through the photovoltaic system.

And what about the future? The next goal is to replace the lighting system throughout the firm with LED lights, which have a lower power consumption compared to standard lighting systems, as well as having lower maintenance costs over the medium to long terms.
